The work continues in Colombia on human rights and business
Between the 8 and the 16 March of 2016 Sustentia Social innovation and the project partner institutions "Training and regional dialogue on business and human rights in Colombia National Plan of action", they started the first activities in Bogota, and in the departments of Antioquia and Valle del Cauca.
It is a multi-stakeholder project, of 18 months, whose goal is to "support to private players, public and social of Colombia to build capacities to develop defined in the National action plan on business and human rights in Colombia (PNA), based on collected within the framework and the guiding principles on business and human rights (protect, respect and remedy) of United Nations. And also, foster dialogue, help define the responsibilities and propose actions that each actor can carry out this process, both from the central level departments".
These days several meetings were held, that achieved a high level of interest and a good reception of the initiative. Inter alia, the project team was joined by Central Government entities, Governorates, Municipal governments, Ombudsman, the Office of the High Commissioner for human rights (OHCHR), the United Nations development programme (UNDP), various bodies and associations, the Ideas for Peace Foundation (FIP), the National Social Pastoral Secretariat, de la Redprodepaz, various organizations of civil society, the Institute for intercultural studies of Cali (IEI) and other potential partners and participants.
While these first meetings very important to disseminate information on the objectives, activities and project methodology, they have been held in Bogota, Medellin and Cali, the project also includes activities in section and Buenaventura.
Coordination with other projects
As part of the general approach of coordinated organization with other projects that are being developed in Colombia in the field of work on human rights and business project, These days Sustentia also participated in other activities such as the Forum "Progress and challenges in business and human rights in Colombia and Latin America", organized together with the Danish Institute for human rights (ODIHR), the German Institute for human rights, the Ideas for Peace Foundation (FIP), the Regional Center of companies and regional enterprises (BELIEVE), the Presidential Advisory Office for human rights and the Office of the Ombudsman.
"Training and regional dialogue on business and human rights in Colombia National Plan of action" is one contribution to the work of many actors in Colombia and internationally, with the aim of promoting the implementation of the guiding principles of United Nations business and human rights.
