Assistance technical for the participation of actors in the preparation of the bread of rights human and companies of Chile

As part of a wider collaboration process with the Directorate of human rights of the Ministry of foreign relations of Chile, Sustentia Social innovation carried out technical assistance "to support the participation of representatives of civil society, companies and trade unions in the process to develop the first National Plan of action for human rights and business in Chile". Although the process began in July with the development of a field work in 3 regions, the collaboration continues until the beginning of 2017.

Sustentia led 6 workshops with representatives of civil society, the companies and the unions in Santiago, Temuco and Antofagasta, using a methodology based on the main reference technical and policy around the implementation of the United Nations guiding principles on business and human rights, as well as in expertise and inputs collected from previous processes, and that they are held in Guatemala and Colombia.

Each of the dialogues included induction activities in areas and within the general framework of the guiding principles, to facilitate that stakeholders could participate in informed dialogues in a way. Subsequently, recommendations and relevant inputs were collected for the construction of the National Plan of action for human rights and business, primarily information about the specific impact which companies on human rights in the areas in which the dialogues carried out and getting recommendations on ways to address these impacts. Also obtained input regarding the obstacles are that face companies in these areas and which result in effects to human rights.

As a first result of this process the day 27 July was a first briefing to the members of the inter-ministerial working group that leads the development of bread, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, introduced by Sr. Heraldo Muñoz, Minister of Foreign Affairs. It presented the main conclusions of the information collected on the workshops.

The dialogue with civil society, companies and unions made by Carlos Cordero, along with those made with representatives of indigenous peoples in the same 3 by Birgitte Feiring and Paloma Muñoz Quick sites, professionals of the Danish Institute for Human Rights (DIHR), they formed the document Review of participatory dialogues on business and human rights in Chile, delivered as one of the inputs for the elaboration of the NAPs of Chile. This report was completed with a document of recommendations on issues to be included in the document of Chile, including possible actions and initiatives compared to those included by other developed countries by bread.
